How to choose metal for wedding rings?
Usually, the choice of material for making wedding rings is between gold and platinum, silver.
The parameters by which people choose metal for wedding rings usually come down to personal preferences and price category, but in this article we will consider the issue more broadly.

Gold for a wedding ring: the golden mean in metals
Gold really comes out as a preferable option in this choice, since, while maintaining sufficient resistance to scratches, deformation and microcracks, its cost is lower than platinum. The complex design in gold products will not wear off after a few years, and gold can darken when in contact with iodine, chlorine-containing substances and other chemical reagents. If you limit the contact of gold wedding rings with "chemistry", then it will last a very, very long time.
In any case, precious metals are all quite soft, they must be handled carefully in any case.
Another advantage of gold wedding rings is that almost any jewelry workshop can change the size of such a ring.
If you prefer silver and its color, then we recommend paying attention to the color shades of gold and white gold, in particular.
Pros and cons of silver wedding rings
The main advantage of silver as a material for jewelry is its cost. There is a fairly high temptation to opt for silver wedding rings, since it is several times cheaper than gold and platinum. But along with this savings, you will probably become a frequent guest in jewelry workshops: silver requires care and constant cleaning. Especially if an additional coating - rhodium plating - was not ordered. Silver darkens "by itself", or rather, the environment can simply affect the change in color of silver - rain, snow, humidity, etc.
Another significant disadvantage of a silver wedding ring is the higher softness of the silver alloy compared to gold or platinum. Silver items show many more scratches and microcracks, and any complex design is generally "contraindicated", since it can wear off after several years of wear. This is especially true for wedding rings, which are worn daily, touch everything and everywhere – door handles, phones, etc.
An additional parameter when choosing a metal for a wedding ring should be the presence or absence of an allergy to silver. The number of people with an allergy to silver is small, but there are significantly fewer people with an allergy to gold or platinum.
The advantages also include a fairly easy procedure for changing the ring size. This should also be remembered when choosing a ring, since it is necessary to periodically adjust their size. Few people have fingers that remain the same in girth for many years.
Platinum: pros and cons in wedding rings
With platinum, everything turns out exactly the opposite, compared to silver: there are almost no registered cases of allergy. The metal is much stronger, more durable and more reliable. It does not require such regular cleaning, polishing and maintenance. One could say – an ideal choice for wedding rings, but the cost of a platinum ring corresponds to these parameters – several times higher than silver products and an order of magnitude higher than gold products.
The disadvantages also include the fact that not all workshops work with platinum due to its fairly high melting temperature. Also, changing the size of a platinum ring will cause difficulty in the future – it also requires some additional experience from a jeweler and equipment in the workshop.
